Things all pregnant women hear! #SUPERBLOGGERCHALLENGE2018

You should add butter to your food. You should gain more weight. Aren’t you too fat already?  – Do these questions remind you something or someone? Well, these are just some of the questions that either you or other pregnant women around you are asked everyday.

Pregnancy is a beautiful phase & everyone around you has some piece of advice for you.  And, the wisdom of others is no doubt helpful. But, where should you draw the line? Some people have no idea of when to stop. It can be your nosy next door neighbor or a random stranger in market. Nothing stops them for giving unsolicited advice!

There were many genuine suggestions that I got during my pregnancy and  I am thankful for it. But, today I am going to list the questions/suggestions that irked me a lot!

  • Do not eat that!

According to my next-door-aunty, all my favorite food are harmful for my baby.  Want Chinese food, you cannot have it. Crave for some Pasta, that’s no good either. Only home-made food with dripping butter is good to have. It’s time to eat more sweets, else you might not have a healthy child. To that Aunty ji, thanks but no thanks!

  • Are you sure you are ready to take care of a child? You would lose all your sleep.

A pregnant women has too much to think of,  please do not add more to her worries. Planned or unplanned, she is giving birth to a child, so obviously she has thought about it and is ready.  Give her some love and support, encourage her!

  • You are the mother, don’t depend too much on husband

I have lost count of how many people had told me this. I understand that in earlier times the roles of men & women in a household had rigid boundaries. Now, as we move towards nuclear family why am I the only one responsible for our child? My husband is equally responsible and he understands his duties towards our baby.

  • You have become fat.

Thanks for the reminder, I was unaware of it. A new life is taking form inside me, so yes I know I have gained weight.  If someone is too thin or too fat, let them be. Stop body shaming pregnant women!

  • Any day now ?

Once you are in your last trimester, random people will come up to you with this question. You can be in office or out shopping. By the time my child was born, I was fed up people repeating the same question every time they met me. If only I could wash those smirked looks on their faces!

It might seem like I have a grudge against people giving me suggestions. But that’s not true! I had support of wonderful family & friends who were there for me. Ready to hear out my random blabber & calm me down. Still, dealing with the bunch of nosy aunties is a momentous task. Don’t be that nosy aunty. If someone around you is pregnant then help them, encourage them, keep them happy!

Motherhood – the gift of a lifetime! #FeedIQ

“Babies are bits of star-dust blown from the hand of God. Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.”

– Larry Barretto

Embracing motherhood is the biggest challenge that a woman can ever face. To be responsible for a new life is a momentous task! You take the leap from thinking about yourself to thinking about your child. Life goes from me to us and you experience unexpected transformations in life.

From living a 9-to-5 life to a 24*7 life is a big thing. Binge-watching TV shows and impromptu night-outs become a thing of the past. When will the kid sleep, when will he eat or when will he poop: all these factors are taken into consideration while making simple decisions like when to go out.

I have always been the one to believe in multitasking and pregnancy taught me how to put my abilities to good use. You can be relaxing while gazillion things go through your mind. Juggling between office and home with pregnancy made me a better organizer.  And, I hope my kids can also learn the skills to prioritize and be confident enough to sail through tough times.

Pregnancy can be a very confusing time with umpteen questions grazing through your mind: what to eat, what to expect, how to help with baby brain development, and more. Here’s where joining prenatal classes can come in handy.

How can prenatal classes help?

The prenatal classes make parenting easy and help parents to prepare what to expect. Few of the benefits are listed below –

  • Help understanding pregnancy – Prenatal classes conduct sessions to explain baby growth during pregnancy. The classes help you track healthy developments in your pregnancy, and teach you the warning signs for when something might go wrong. Being aware will help you avoid the risk of premature delivery which can result in incomplete brain development.
  • Understanding the importance of healthy nutrition during pregnancy – The classes help you by providing proper diet charts mentioning food rich with folic acid, vitamins, minerals, protein, and iron that help to boost your baby’s IQ. Right food during pregnancy leads to improved health of the baby at birth. You can read more about your nutrition requirement here.
  • Teach exercises to ease pregnancy  Many prenatal classes conduct workout sessions for expecting mothers. As little as 20 minutes of exercise three times per week can advance a newborn’s brain activity. Aerobic exercise increases mitochondrial activity in a mother’s brain, and this effect crosses the placenta and benefits the fetal brain as well.
  • Teach relaxation techniques  The emotional and physical changes during pregnancy can cause stress in few mothers. High-stress level causes cortisol hormone to be released into the body which can interfere with the fetal development. Relaxing techniques like prenatal yoga and meditation help you relax.
  • Teach auditory stimulation and tactile stimulation techniques – At 20 weeks, your baby’s hearing becomes fully developed and baby reacts when you talk. At 28 weeks you can feel the baby movements through mother’s belly. The prenatal classes help in understanding this and teach you to respond to the child by either reading books, singing or pressing the belly whenever you feel the kicks. It is the best way to boost your baby’s IQ and language development. Visit here to know more about the importance of stimulation techniques.
  • Conduct breastfeeding classes – The classes teach breastfeeding mechanism to new mothers. The nutritional requirements of a baby are fully dependent on a mother in the early stages of life which helps develop infant cognition, thereby creating a fertile ground for better IQ. For more details on breastfeeding basics, visit this page.
  • Debunk myths of labor by rehearsal sessions – The prenatal classes conduct the session on what to expect during labor and delivery. They teach symptoms to identify when labor starts and the pain relief options that can make labor comfortable.
  • Conduct couple sessions – In keeping with the current times, you can also enroll for couple sessions. These classes help in understanding the importance of a birthing partner. Taking a class together can mean father’s increased involvement in the pregnancy, and can act as a good bonding experience for the child. Like the mother, the father can also benefit from knowing what to expect when the mother goes into labor – and how to assist in that process.
  • Provide support groups for expecting mothers – You can find support from other expectant couples in the class. You can share your joy and concerns with them because they will understand you. They are your ecosystem and you can fall back on them anytime. It’s rightly said that it takes a village to raise a kid!

What is Feed IQ?

Feed IQ literally means that a mother feeds ‘IQ’ to her baby through breastfeeding and stimulation i.e. infant brain exercises. It is helpful for all: pregnant women, term mothers, and pre-term mothers. Some of the information you can find out includes –

  • Track your baby’s growth during pregnancy
  • Nutrition tips for mother
  • Learn exercises and relaxation techniques
  • How to make your pregnancy, labor, and delivery more comfortable
  • Signs to identify labor and various pain relief options
  • Breastfeeding mechanism
  • Baby food tips for pre-term and full-term kids
  • Understand stimulation techniques for baby brain development

There can be conflicting opinions about whether to join prenatal classes or not. At least, the prenatal classes make you less fearful and armed with some childbirth knowledge. It is always better to have the know-how rather than being unprepared for it.The classes offer an extra cushion of comfort during pregnancy and make your birthing journey easy.

My bagfull of travel memories! #Superbloggerchallenge2018

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta

Once you start to travel nothing else can ever satisfy your soul. With travel comes the fondest memories. Memories of places you see, people you meet and the food you eat. As far as I can remember, I have always been travelling either with family or friends.

Vivekananda Rock memorial
Me at Viveknanda Rock Memorial

My earliest travel memories involve travelling in train from Khandwa to my hometown in summer vacations. As a five-year old kid, the overnight journey was intriguing. Thoughts of meeting my grandparents and playing with cousins kept me preoccupied. Those were the days of pure joy and innocence! 🙂

Another one of my favorite childhood travel memory is of my first school trip. How can I forget the thrill of travelling sans parents? It was also the first time that I had enjoyed snowfall.

Some places are etched in memories and you might like to visit them more often. For me, that place is Vivekananda Rock Memorial,Kanyakumari. I have been here many times and it’s still not enough. Watching sunrise at the beach, catching the early ferry to the memorial and returning with the sunset hues spread across the sea – a perfect day!

Each travel has added a new story in my life – some were funny and few were horrifying. The scariest travel experience was when two troublemakers kept following us on their bike in a hill station. It was late evening, me and my friend were returning back to our hotel. The troublesome duo irritated us until we shouted on them. Not one person around us had interfered to stop those boys.I realize that our safety is in our hands, still a little help from bystanders would be appreciated. Next time if you see wrong doings anywhere, then raise a voice!

I have also met wonderful people on my journeys. The cab driver in Gangtok who shared anecdotes of his life with us. The woman who was amazed when she learnt I was travelling without my husband. The uncle who had accompanied us in Kashmir tour. The latest being a lady who had helped me with my infant in air travel last month. I might not remember their names forever, but kindness is never forgotten.

My travel stories are never-ending & I am sure you would also have such travel stories.  What is your fondest travel story? Which is your favorite place to visit? Do share them with us.

Time for rendezvous with #AtoZ2018!

Its that time of the year when bloggers around the world get ready for April #AtoZChallenge. For the month of April each day a post is written titled with alphabet of the day. Sundays are off days,i.e., a total of 26 posts are written. I had participated last year for the first time & will be continuing the tradition this April too.

AtoZChallenge is time to discover new blogs and make new friends. It’s time to reignite your passion for writing. Remember that idea you had in mind but could not complete. Time to put on your thinking caps and go with the flow. This year, I have a theme in mind which I would like to follow throughout the challenge.

You might say that writing daily for whole month sounds like a tedious job. And, it sure is! What do I gain from it?

  • I will be able to discipline my blogging schedule.
  • Finally work on theme I have in mind.
  • Discover new blogs and learn new things.
  • Make more friends in blogging world. After all friends make life better!
  • I hope to improve my Alexa ranking, DA, PA and Moz rank. Or any other technical jargon that I am currently unaware of. 🙂
  • Lastly, would love to have more readership on my blog.

Have you ever participated in #AtoZChallenge? How was your experience? And, I am taking the Challenge of April with Blogchatter, are you?
