Story of Terminal 1! #WriteBravely

Source :https://goodstock.photos/wp-content/uploads/empty-airport-terminal-hall.jpg

“All international departures are from Terminal 1”, reminded my roommate for the hundredth time.

“I know, I will reach on time. Don’t worry”, I replied.

“Suhani, you need to stop being a mother hen for all your friends. Go out, shop & party! Make a profile on Tinder at least now”. These were my parting words to my roommate & best friend. Even as I joked she could sense my unsaid emotions. Afterall, she had stayed with me through thick & thin.

The journey to airport was uneventful. After completing all boarding formalities, I sat at the coffee shop with a book in my hand. There were so many thoughts racing through my mind. I am returning home after six years and forever this time.

Looks like yesterday when I had first landed on this terminal. You had bumped into me at the immigration counter, throwing my belongings all across the airport floor. You had just smiled. Again, at the taxi bay you had hopped into the cab that I was supposed to take. “Sorry, an emergency need to take the cab asap.”, your first words to me. I should have known you were trouble!

First day at college & I caught your glimpse around the campus. My suspicion was confirmed when you became my student counsellor. Funny, how our fates were entwined. After the awkward first few days, we were quite comfortable with each other. Asking for your help around college to finding hotels when I was missing Indian food! You were my go-to person for all queries.

We had chatted all through my semester break spent at home. I remember the surprise proposal you had planned outside these terminal gates when I had returned from my vacation. “I love you munchkin”, you were always a man of few words. Of Course, I had fallen for you too.

I remember all the flights we have taken together from this terminal. All the vacations or the trips back home have been with you. Remember the time when we had a huge fight and I had flown to my aunt’s home for the holiday season.

Before long, our parents were asking about our marriage plans. I was so nervous for the journey home to talk to my parents about us & you had been my rock. It was here when you had met my family for the first time. My dad was watching your every move & you had bravely faced him. This terminal has witnessed my laughter & my tears both.

Finally, months of negotiations with our families & they had accepted our relationship. We had travelled like cupid-struck-teenagers for our engagement. People at airport were staring at us, but we simply did not care.

I hated it when you got a job back home and had to leave this country before me. We were going to leave together. I don’t like travelling alone! My thoughts were broken by the flight announcement.

“This is the final call for all passengers travelling on flight A14”. Today, I am taking the final flight from this terminal to be home to get married to the love of my life. I am looking forward to our new journey together, our new jobs and plans to settle in our own country.

As I look back one last time, I know this terminal will always have a special place in my heart. 🙂

My bag of memories! #WriteBravely

Every place that I have lived or visited has memories attached with it. Our brains are wired to store images continuously. And, these flashes of images make us nostalgic.

Home sweet home!

Whenever I think about my hometown Lucknow, I can relive all 21 years of my life in one go. My home, my school – all set within few kilometers of each other. Then, my maternal grandparents also not too far. The carefree days spent with cousins and friends!

My very first memories go back to spending time with my grandparents. My grandfather used to tell us new stories every night & I used to tease my grandmother by hiding behind doors. And, the summer vacations which were spent at my maternal grandparents home. The Nawabi culture of Lucknow is so embedded in my system that I still use ‘Hum’ & ‘Aap’ for ‘I’ & ‘You’. 🙂

Later, my job then took me across various places in India, with Mumbai being my favorite. I vividly remember the day I had landed in Mumbai. From woolen jackets of Lucknow to cotton shrugs of Mumbai in January. Mumbai – city of dreams had welcomed us with its rhythmic chaos!

Marine Drive, Mumbai

I had revisited Mumbai after three years and still the place was just as lively. Night out at Marine Drive, shopping in Bandra or the Vada pao at every corner of the city! I can write a whole book about my bag of memories.

Isn’t this how we live our lives? Gathering memories each day and replaying them over and over. It’s not only happy memories that shape our world, but also the sad ones! What are your happiest memories? Do you believe that memories shape how we plan our future?

Life’s pattern or puzzle! #Writebravely

Ding-dong…Ding-dong…The pattern of door bell ringing at 6 in morning! Mr. Hubby opens the door lazily. On rare occassions, I do get up with sleepy eyes to welcome the house-help.

‘Didi, what should I cook for breakfast & lunch’, asks the cook everyday. And, as my sleep is broken from the consistent door bell, I try to recall all the ingredients in fridge. After much hassle & efforts the breakfast is done and lunches are packed. Mr. Hubby rushes for his office, while I head back to my unkempt bed to catch up on some sleep. Alas, I am reminded of my office soon and the struggle continues!

The day in office passes in a jiffy with coding, meetings, blah – blah. Heading back home to cook’s same query about what to make for dinner. And, the life circle continues with the same pattern day in & day out.

Throughout the day there are many instances, which can upset my daily routine. Maids not arriving on time or being stuck in traffic jam. Code not working or a heated discussion within the team.  Yet, all of these small instances fit in like a puzzle and complete my day.

Is life really a set of patterns or the pieces of puzzle? What do you think?  Do share your thoughts with us. 🙂

Awaiting your arrival… #MyFriendAlexa

I know you would be coming soon. There is so much to prepare, so much to complete. Each day is spent awaiting your arrival. Some people ask me when you are arriving & I only smile and move on. If only I knew the exact moment of your arrival.

Tic-toc of the clock serves as a reminder of time passing by. Maybe you need more time. It’s okay, I will understand. Take your own time. No hurries!

Just want to let you know, that I am eagerly waiting. Waiting to meet you, to know you more. And, be assured that once you are here, we will have the best time of our lives. See you soon… 🙂

Recipe for crunchy Cream rolls! #MyFriendAlexa

I have a love-love relationship with food where I love savoring on different snacks everyday. One of these days, I had craving for cream rolls. And, not just any ordinary cream roll, I had the urge to make them at home. It will sound crazier if I tell you that there are three bakeries just outside my society to relish cream roll.

Without much thought, I searched for all the ingredients available at home.

Ingredients

  • Maida flour (Finely milled wheat flour) – 250 gm for 4-5 servings
  • Whipped Cream / Fresh cream
  • Icing Sugar
  • Salt, as per taste
  • Cooking oil
Recipe for roll –
  • Knead the dough from Maida flour. Add 1 teaspoon cooking oil & pinch of salt to the dough preparation.
  • Divide the dough into 4-5 smaller balls.
  • Flatten the balls with help of rolling-pin in circular shape.
  • Cut the flattened dough vertically in stripes.

    Cream roll preparation
  • Prepare cylindrical rolls from aluminium foil that will be used for grilling purposes.
  • Start placing each stripes one after the other on the aluminium foil roll.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of Maida floor with water to prepare a paste.
  • Gently rub small amount of paste along the edges all over the roll to keep them from falling apart.
  • Grill it in microwave/ oven at 220°C till the roll turns light brown in color.

    Grill the roll
  • Cool down the roll for sometime & crunchy rolls are ready.
