Sun and Sand! #AtoZChallenge

Last chapter

Bentota,Sri Lanka

Ananth and Natasha went to Sri Lanka to relax and unwind for their Babymoon. They stayed in Bentota for two days on a beachfront property.

The resort was surrounded by coconut trees and vast lawns on three sides and an endless Indian Ocean on one side. It was a treat for eyes. They spent their days sunbathing on the beach or lying in the pool. The beach remained sparsely populated and had few eateries around to enjoy local delicacies.

Natasha was elated that she could take some time off before the child came. She was happy to spent some moments alone in the company of her love.  And, she loved flaunting her baby bump and capturing it in beautiful photographs.

When not on the beach, she would sit in their room balcony and watch the rising and setting sun. The rising sun was a promise of their bright future ahead.

On their last night in Bentota, Ananth took her out for a candle light dinner where fewer words were spoken. For they enjoyed their silence more and they talked about coming back with their child who would spent time making sand castles.

The vacation was blissful and all the sun & sand added more beauty to the already glowing Natasha.

Restless nights! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

30 June,2015 5:00 p.m.

Ananth could reach home only by 5:00 p.m., by then it was late to reach airport in time. They had missed their flight. Natasha was furious at Ananth and unwilling to talk.

‘Why did you even go to office? You could have logged in from home and work. I don’t even get to go to a vacation now.’, Natasha spoke as she bursts into tears.

‘Nats, it’s all right. We can take a vacation even now and we will. I will make this up to you!’ Ananth was clueless as the rains had created havoc in the city. The weekend was spend in making refunds for all the bookings. His surprise may not have worked out, but his mind was racing to make other definite plans.

Natasha was upset for days and did not talk to him. Ananth was persistent in his efforts and finally convinced Natasha for a long weekend holiday.

After many restless nights, this time Ananth made sure that they went for a beach holiday.

Pregnancy brain! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

‘How can I be so forgetful’, muttered Natasha to no one in particular.

Thrice in this week she had forgotten her lunch at home and had to make do from the cafeteria sandwiches. Hungry and cranky is not a good combination!

By now even her team members were teasing her about the ‘Pregnancy Brain’. Last week they had shifted their office to a different floor & on Monday Natasha was waiting for everyone at the old location. Drafting the email and forgetting to send it has become a frequent occurrence now.

‘Ah, how long will I suffer like this. I should lock myself at home and never come out’, thought Natasha.

One good thing that she can count from her Pregnancy Brain experience is brushing her teeth after every meal. Last weekend, after every meal, she involuntarily went and brushed her teeth. And, this happened four times in two days. Either she is too stressed or she is going crazy.

Even Ananth laughs at her silly mistakes now. She is tired of her carelessness but would not trade it for anything in the world. Pregnancy Brain may be a myth for many people, but for her it was a funny reminder of a new life growing.

Once more! #AtoZChallenge

Last chapter

Conference Room, 2:00 p.m.

Natasha is a not a big fan of post lunch meeting sessions. A happily fed person needs a little nudge to fall asleep and the sales figures and budgeting numbers were putting her to sleep. When suddenly, she sat up straight as a rush of adrenaline ran through her body.

‘Ah, how much gas can a body produce and I have not even had coffee since morning. I feeling a balloon already and still 4 months left. Funny that doctors call it fluttering. What is fluttering? I should be feeling butterflies in my stomach and all I feel is gas.’ thought Natasha.

‘Ouch, I hate cramping. It hurts. One too many butterflies fluttering in my belly today!’, Natasha continued thinking.

‘So, we have the sales from last quarter in this slide…’, her boss was explaining when she felt another pinching pain.

‘What is wrong today?’ wondered Natasha, and just then she realized something. This was not pain. It was her child kicking. Her child was awake and kicking in her womb and she felt it for the first time. First kicks!

How long she had waited for this moment to feel the first signs of her child playing. The surge of emotions took her by surprise and she exclaimed aloud,’Wow!’

‘Are you alright Natasha?’, asked her boss.

‘Nothing’ replied Natasha and she felt her child kick more prominently.

‘It can be a figment of my imagination. But, every time my boss talks about numbers my kid is kicking more. I might be giving birth to a mathematician’,murmured Natasha.

The whole meeting went in a jiffy with Natasha trying to concentrate between the presentation and the baby kicks. She could not wait to reach home and share the wonderful news with Ananth and feel the baby kick once more.

Never again! #AtoZChallenge

Last chapter

‘Never again Ananth. I had enough of it.’, yelled Natasha.

‘But honey, its for your own good. You need the classes to be prepared.’, said Ananth trying to convince Natasha to attend the prenatal classes.

‘Ananth, you are aware that I am not wired for so much patience and even our mothers gave birth without attending any classes.’, replied Natasha.

‘But…’

‘Not another word Ananth.’

‘Okay, what if I will come with you for the classes. Why should you go alone?’, replied Ananth.

It was thus decided that Ananth would accompany Natasha for the next class before she stops going altogether. The next Wednesday Ananth dutifully reported for the class where he found Natasha smirking. There were ten couples attending the class with them.

‘Hello all, today we will be talking about the birthing process.’, announced the trainer as each couple looked around nervously.

The next thirty minutes were the longest Ananth had ever spent as he tried to shut out the world around him and to stop listening to what the trainer was speaking. The detailed instructions about the pelvic floor and the birthing video were scary for him and he had decided he would never force Natasha again!

‘Who ever came up with the idea to invent these classes? Why would you force 10 pregnant women together in a single room with only one loo? And, why invite husbands to attend it? I would have been happier without knowing it all.’ spoke Ananth in a single breath.

Natasha did not reply and gave him a I-already-told-you-so look.

Ananth continued,’ And what is up with her telling every five minutes about not panicking. The situations demands panicking. I will have to learn few relaxations techniques myself to calm myself if I have to accompany you in the labor room.’

‘Do they realize that birthing plans are the most absurd things. Who would want to write that I plan to suffer in pain and have maximum contractions. No body wants it. We all plan for two minutes birth with zero degree of pain.’, spoke Natasha breaking her silence.

‘Now you understand what I was saying earlier about not wanting to attend the class. I do not want to discuss my feelings with random strangers. I am never coming back.’, said Natasha firmly.

This discussion of wanting and not wanting to attend the classes continued till the next week when they again attended the session. They both had their inhibitions and shared jokes about the classes. But, in reality they were both thankful to get the understanding and find people like them with whom they could easily connect. The never again saga was soon buried away.
