Review of AktivHealth,Noida Center

AktivHealth is an advanced physiotherapy & rehabilitation center  that introduced to India the active part of rehabilitative procedures for orthopedic and neurological treatment. The Active treatment requires active patient participation whilst at the same time addresses individual patient needs and limitations. This active approach is combined with other effective passive forms of treatments provided by them – professional physiotherapy, massage, electrotherapy and other useful therapeutic modalities. They have opened up a new center in Noida this March.

With long hours of the day spent sitting in front of computer, I am prone to backache. Therefore, when I got the opportunity to visit the AktivHealth center for a therapy session, I jumped at it. At the center, I was greeted by Mr. Nandlal, the center head, who explained to me the whole process of active approach of the treatment and the facilities at the center. They have incorporated German technology for the therapies to help their patients.

Facilities at the AktivHealth, Noida center
  • Centrally located in Sector 62, Noida
  • Courteous and trained staff members
  • The entire center is organised and hygienic
  • A well equipped training room with modern amenities for functional movement conditioning, Medical Training Therapy (MTT), etc.
  • Nine treatment rooms for one-to-one therapy sessions
  • Regular consultations with on-staff orthopedic expertise and sports injury specialists
  • Dedicated staff for Paediatric Physical Therapy
  • Dedicated lab for Oncology(cancer) Rehabilitation

I took an hour-long  therapy session for my backache & it was very beneficial. They helped in identifying the root cause & provided me tips to maintain correct posture to support the spinal cord. Complete transparency and communication of the actual diagnosis and cure was maintained. I could feel improvement in pain from the first session itself. Overall, my personal experience was great & I would suggest you to visit the center for your treatment. For more details about AktivHealth, you can visit there website here.

Motherhood – the gift of a lifetime! #FeedIQ

“Babies are bits of star-dust blown from the hand of God. Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.”

– Larry Barretto

Embracing motherhood is the biggest challenge that a woman can ever face. To be responsible for a new life is a momentous task! You take the leap from thinking about yourself to thinking about your child. Life goes from me to us and you experience unexpected transformations in life.

From living a 9-to-5 life to a 24*7 life is a big thing. Binge-watching TV shows and impromptu night-outs become a thing of the past. When will the kid sleep, when will he eat or when will he poop: all these factors are taken into consideration while making simple decisions like when to go out.

I have always been the one to believe in multitasking and pregnancy taught me how to put my abilities to good use. You can be relaxing while gazillion things go through your mind. Juggling between office and home with pregnancy made me a better organizer.  And, I hope my kids can also learn the skills to prioritize and be confident enough to sail through tough times.

Pregnancy can be a very confusing time with umpteen questions grazing through your mind: what to eat, what to expect, how to help with baby brain development, and more. Here’s where joining prenatal classes can come in handy.

How can prenatal classes help?

Source: http://trinityhealth.org

The prenatal classes make parenting easy and help parents to prepare what to expect. Few of the benefits are listed below –

  • Help understanding pregnancy – Prenatal classes conduct sessions to explain baby growth during pregnancy. The classes help you track healthy developments in your pregnancy, and teach you the warning signs for when something might go wrong. Being aware will help you avoid the risk of premature delivery which can result in incomplete brain development.
  • Understanding the importance of healthy nutrition during pregnancy – The classes help you by providing proper diet charts mentioning food rich with folic acid, vitamins, minerals, protein, and iron that help to boost your baby’s IQ. Right food during pregnancy leads to improved health of the baby at birth. You can read more about your nutrition requirement here.
  • Teach exercises to ease pregnancy  Many prenatal classes conduct workout sessions for expecting mothers. As little as 20 minutes of exercise three times per week can advance a newborn’s brain activity. Aerobic exercise increases mitochondrial activity in a mother’s brain, and this effect crosses the placenta and benefits the fetal brain as well.
  • Teach relaxation techniques  The emotional and physical changes during pregnancy can cause stress in few mothers. High-stress level causes cortisol hormone to be released into the body which can interfere with the fetal development. Relaxing techniques like prenatal yoga and meditation help you relax.
  • Teach auditory stimulation and tactile stimulation techniques – At 20 weeks, your baby’s hearing becomes fully developed and baby reacts when you talk. At 28 weeks you can feel the baby movements through mother’s belly. The prenatal classes help in understanding this and teach you to respond to the child by either reading books, singing or pressing the belly whenever you feel the kicks. It is the best way to boost your baby’s IQ and language development. Visit here to know more about the importance of stimulation techniques.

  • Conduct breastfeeding classes – The classes teach breastfeeding mechanism to new mothers. The nutritional requirements of a baby are fully dependent on a mother in the early stages of life which helps develop infant cognition, thereby creating a fertile ground for better IQ. For more details on breastfeeding basics, visit this page.
  • Debunk myths of labor by rehearsal sessions – The prenatal classes conduct the session on what to expect during labor and delivery. They teach symptoms to identify when labor starts and the pain relief options that can make labor comfortable.
  • Conduct couple sessions – In keeping with the current times, you can also enroll for couple sessions. These classes help in understanding the importance of a birthing partner. Taking a class together can mean father’s increased involvement in the pregnancy, and can act as a good bonding experience for the child. Like the mother, the father can also benefit from knowing what to expect when the mother goes into labor – and how to assist in that process.
  • Provide support groups for expecting mothers – You can find support from other expectant couples in the class. You can share your joy and concerns with them because they will understand you. They are your ecosystem and you can fall back on them anytime. It’s rightly said that it takes a village to raise a kid!

What is Feed IQ?

Feed IQ literally means that a mother feeds ‘IQ’ to her baby through breastfeeding and stimulation i.e. infant brain exercises. It is helpful for all: pregnant women, term mothers, and pre-term mothers. Some of the information you can find out includes –

  • Track your baby’s growth during pregnancy
  • Nutrition tips for mother
  • Learn exercises and relaxation techniques
  • How to make your pregnancy, labor, and delivery more comfortable
  • Signs to identify labor and various pain relief options
  • Breastfeeding mechanism
  • Baby food tips for pre-term and full-term kids
  • Understand stimulation techniques for baby brain development

There can be conflicting opinions about whether to join prenatal classes or not. At least, the prenatal classes make you less fearful and armed with some childbirth knowledge. It is always better to have the know-how rather than being unprepared for it.The classes offer an extra cushion of comfort during pregnancy and make your birthing journey easy.

My Family vs. Cancer- World Cancer Day!

World Cancer Day is celebrated on 4 February each year. The theme for this year is ‘We Can, I Can’. It’s a global initiative to raise Cancer Awareness and to support your local charities. You can read more about this global initiative here. The Cancer curse had struck my family last year. It took us time to recover and now we have courage to talk about it.

Exactly a year back my spouse suffered from a food allergy. We visited our GP for treatment and were advised to get an ultrasound done as a routine check-up. Who thinks of getting scans done every time you suffer a food allergy? Thus, the thought of getting ultrasound was dismissed in a casual manner.

Within a week he fell sick twice. After this he got an ultrasound done on a whim. The ultrasound report showed cyst formation on his kidney. My family doctor suggested to get further scans done and consult a specialist. One thing leads to another and we found out that it was a large tumor on kidney which had maximum possibility of being cancerous.

The rest of the month went in a jiffy with frequent tests & the urgent surgery which was performed to operate upon tumor. The biopsy results confirmed our worst fears that it was Stage 1 Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer). Lucky enough the cancerous cell had not spread in body and it was detected at early stage.

Cancer treatment is a painful process and a lifelong commitment. We had our moments of doubt, but faith kept us going. Nothing in life could have ever prepared us for facing Cancer. You never realize the extent of stress till it hits you. I cannot exactly feel what my spouse went through during whole treatment. We are thankful to have a strong support system in terms of family and friends.

As a child, I have also seen my grandmother being treated for breast cancer. She lived a healthy life till long after her surgery. On both occasions in my family, cancer detection was an accidental finding. Early detection is the key to cancer treatment.

This World Cancer Day take a pledge to get your health check-up done. Do it for yourself and your loved ones. Cancer symptoms may not show up until it’s too late. Regular health screening is the way to go. If you or your loved one have fought cancer, then I am sending loads of love across to you. You are not alone in this battle. I would be honoured to know how you have kicked Cancer and how did you cope with it. Because together we can & we will!

Do share the post to help raise Cancer Awareness and to support those battling it.

Understanding Cancer to #FightCancer

Cancer- a dreaded disease which reminds us only of pain and suffering. It can happen to anyone irrespective of age or gender. It is also a very misunderstood disease. This month I am raising Cancer Awareness to help in better understanding and to be supportive of people who face it.

What is Cancer?

It is defined as the disease where few of the body’s cells begin to divide in uncontrollable fashion and spread into surrounding tissues. This results in the growth of malignant tumors in the body. It is caused by genetic changes in the cell’s ability to grow and divide. These changes can also cause DNA mutations.

When Cancer cells spread to different parts of the body from the point of origin, it is named as Metastasis.

Staging of Cancer

The course of treatment depends on the size of Cancer and how far it is spread.

TNM Staging –

It is based on size of tumor and its spread into different parts of the body.

T – Size of tumor, and how far it has spread to nearby tissues. Values range from 1 to 4, where 1 denotes small.

N – To identify if Cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes. Values range from 0 to 3. 0 denotes no spread of cancer to lymph nodes.

M – Identify if cancer has spread to other parts of body. Values are 0 or 1, where 0 means no spread of Cancer to other organs.

Example – A small cancer not spread to lymph nodes or other parts will be represented as T1 N0 M0.

The letters ‘p’ or ‘c’ can also be used to describe the stage of Cancer. The letter ‘p’ identifies that stage of cancer is determined pathologically after surgery to remove cancer. Letter ‘c’ denotes that the stage is determined clinically during course of treatment before surgery.

Example – pT1N0M0.

Number Based Staging –

The TNM values are used by medical professionals to determine number based stage of Cancer, where

Stage 1- Cancer is small and contained within the originating organ.

Stage 2–  Cancer is large than Stage 1 but not spread to surrounding tissues. It can also describe that cancer may have spread to the lymph nodes surrounding the originating organ.

Stage 3 – Cancer is large and has spread to surrounding tissues and lymph nodes.

Stage 4 – Cancer has spread to different body part(s). It denotes metastasis.

It becomes difficult for non-medical people to understand medical. Hence, I am trying to make Understanding Cancer a simpler process this whole month. In next post, I will discuss different treatments that are used for diagnosis.

I am taking part in this initiative to #FightCancer along with #BlogChatterProjects.

Curse of Cancer… #AtoZChallenge

(Image Copied for internet)

Cancer is a life-threatening disease which results from abnormal growth of cells. It affects different people in different ways. Whatever be the case, the person suffers – both physically and mentally. Family and friends around the person also feel the same pain. Seeing your loved ones go through the treatment is hard.

Just today morning I had read the story of a kid who underwent the cancer treatment on Humans of New York page on Facebook. Each story that I read or hear has a common connection – the fear of unknown & the faith to get better.

I understand your pain. Every needle that pierced you equally pierced my heart. You were the one going through treatment & I was as anxious as you. Awaiting the scan results was miserable. Each day had new anxiety levels. Your eyes conveyed the feelings which the words could not. A visit to doctor was never so scary. Let’s just say I also never want to visit hospitals ever again for a lifetime.

Only you can determine the extent of your pain. You have been through it & no one can ever fully comprehend how you feel. But, never forget that you have your family & friends to support you whenever you need us. It’s not your battle alone to fight. We are all in this together & will sail through it. God’s grace has helped us throughout these tough times. And the worst is over!

The future holds all good things for you. Please do not let go of who you were. The zest for life that you have should stay till eternity. Think of it as a cloud with silver lining. Remember your dreams & aspirations and live for them with a new passion. Afterall, there are so many things left to try!

– Love you loads ! 🙂

P.S. – This post is dedicated to all those who are going through Cancer & their families. It may be tough right now, but this too shall pass.
