Natasha was walking around the room playing with her hair. Ananth had noticed that she was biting her lips and had clenched fists. She was a nervous wreck, jumping at every sound of door opening. It’s not every day that you meet your child for the first time.
Natasha and Ananth were called in for the first ultrasound of her pregnancy. Till now their child was a feeling and today they will see the physical existence of this new life. Like all new parents, they were scared of what to expect. They had so many questions which obviously they would forget later to ask the doctor.
As Natasha lay on the examination table, Ananth stood by her side, reassuring her.
‘First pregnancy?’, asked the doctor.
‘Yes, first time’, both replied in unison.
‘Okay, Natasha you need to relax now. Soon enough you will meet your baby’,said doctor and continued with his examination.
Doctor spoke after what seemed like eternity to them and points them to a small dot on the screen, ‘Meet your child’.
Ananth and Natasha both gave puzzled look to each other as the baby resembled a bean more than a human. They had read baby forums online, still nothing could have prepared them for this exact moment.
Further into the examination doctor confirmed the heart beat of their child. They could hear it themselves. The knowledge of their child’s well-being was a relief. It was a proof that they can see and hear for themselves.
In that moment their eyes met and they knew they would love their child forever. The doctor confirmed a single live fetus and explained that everything was alright.
They walked out of the clinic with their most prized possession- their child’s first photo. The photo would have a prominent place on their bedroom wall. It was just first of the many they pictures they will cherish!
