Processed meats have chemicals added to keep them fresh, but these chemicals can also have an adverse effect on your health. Both sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate have been linked to significantly increase the risk of colon and other forms of cancer.
Refined sugar increases the insulin levels and stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup also aid the growth of cancer cells. Especially, people with diabetes are at higher risk for cancers and should take proper care.
Genetically-modified organisms (GMOs)
GMOs are known to cause rapid tumor growths & in today’s processed food world, it is difficult to find food without GMOs. Locally grown food with organic labels is the best way forward.
A study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Mile Markers, and Prevention found that regular consumption of refined carbohydrates was linked to a 220 percent increase in breast cancer among women. The excess carbohydrate content is our ready to eat food packets and quick snacks is definitely a cause of concern.
These oils are mostly used as preservatives in food, but studies suggest that there is an increased risk of Cancer with prolonged used of these oils. They can alter the structure and flexibility of cell membranes in human body. It’s safer to switch to safer alternatives like palm oil.
Grilling or frying can release harmful compounds like heterocyclic amines (HA) and advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). These compounds are prominently found in red meat, fried eggs or nuts. Boiling or steaming can be a good choice for cooking food properly.
