Nesting – how I did it during pregnancy?

Nesting, the act of cleaning and organizing house during the third trimester of pregnancy is an overwhelming feeling. To an outsider you might look like a crazy woman on binge sessions of cleaning already clean spaces. You would spend hours organizing cupboards which is already immaculate. Ask a pregnant woman and she will tell you the infinite reasons on why doing so is necessary. I went through this phase and did not even realize when it began. My sister had seen the obvious signs and pointed them out to me.

All was well till the day I had the urge to get a baby cot for my yet to be born child. Nothing else mattered more than buying a cot. Practical advice like I would be mostly co-sleeping and keep the baby close to myself were ignored. The ones which I wanted to buy were pricey and then came the idea to get a self customized cot made by the carpenter. And, I did exactly the same!! In the ninth month of my pregnancy, I was scrolling Pinterest for baby bed ideas. I got a simple one made and hand-painted it solely with occasional help from my father. Looking back at it now, I realize it was foolish to be aroundΒ  all these wooden paints. But,I love the feeling of seeing my child sleeping in it today. πŸ™‚

The other urge that I had was to label all the containers in the kitchen. All the Masala, Dal, Snacks boxes were labelled with a sticker. Even the transparent box with rice was also stamped. How can someone not identify rice is beyond my understanding now! πŸ™‚

Who can ignore the urge to buy baby clothes? And, why do shops have such cute clothes on the display. In my family, we don’t usually buy clothes before birth and they are gifted by closed ones. I also did the same but with a twist. I went along with my family members to pick out the selected baby suits and jumpers. It’s safe to say that I also wanted a car seat before the child was born. Things took a different turn and I got it after few months of childbirth. I have never told anyone but the car seat was always added in my Amazon shopping cart. It was just a matter of mouse click which was left. πŸ˜€

Cleanliness was another tell tale sign. My house help had to clean and again deep clean all the corners of the house each day. Nothing satisfied me until the day I took the broom and had swept the bedroom myself. Alas, the penguin walk did not make it too easy to sweep the whole house and eventually I stopped.

If you are pregnant then you see all the signs soon and if you have ever been pregnant before, then you know what I am talking about. Awww! I loved reading this post because it reminded me of my pregnancy. Nesting is such a special phase for a new mother and buying a cot and new baby clothes is a feeling that she cherishes forever.

Love that term nesting for preparing the house for the new arrival. This instinct kicked in me when I went berserk buying baby clothes and baby proofing my house.

We too did a lot of pre preparations in my third trimester. Looking at my baby’s clothes made me want to see my child sooner

Wow Disha you had a lot of energy during your pregnancy! All I did was sleep, watch TV and read books!! I did all the shopping beforehand, though even that seemed like a tough task.
