Familiar yet unfamiliar- Deja vu! #MyFriendAlexa

As a kid, I had lived in this city years ago with my family. I used to play in these streets & go to the school located at the corner of street. My best friend lived next door & we used to walk to the school together. We shared same interests & followed each other whole day. Neighbours called us the mischeif-duo. We had explored this area together. Were lost so many times and yet found new roads.

I remember her voice clearly as if it was yesterday when I had last talked to her. Her habit of making faces at people is still fresh in my mind. And, I laugh every time I recall stories of her silly fights with her elder brother. He was so notorious or rather a hooligan as our teachers used to say.

As fate would have it, I am revisiting this city after 20 years for my cousin’s marriage. On reaching the venue, I recognize the similar shops in the side lanes. I plan to visit my childhood home located not too far from here. I am excited at the prospect of meeting my childhood friend & visiting my school.

To my amazement nothing has changed & I can spot my friend just outside her home. I shout her name and then she looks back. I wave and move towards her. But, there is no sign of recognition on her face!

Suddenly, I hear a familiar voice calling out my name. It’s my elder sister who has followed me till here from venue. She catches her breath & with a confused look asks, “Where exactly are you going? And, why did you leave the venue alone in this new city?”

I respond with amused looks,”Don’t you remember our home? We have lived here for five long years.”

Nothing could have prepared me for the reply that my sister gave, “But,we have never lived in this city and are visiting it for first time.”

I was surprised & confirmed it with my other family members. Only after assurance from my father I realized that I have never lived in this city as a child. The memories itched in my mind are figment of my childhood imagination. The familiar sights & sounds are actually unfamiliar to me.

How is it possible? How could I feel so connected to this place and what about the girl I saw? Is it my past life or a parallel universe? Or is it deja vu – familiar yet unfamiliar?

Being a responsible Indian Citizen !

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

India is a democratic country – government of the people, by the people & for the people. We chose our ministers & expect them to keep all things in check. How often do we even think to do our bit for the country ? We do have fundamental rights, but what about the fundamental duties that accompany it ?

Power cuts, broken roads, corruption, bribery – just crib about it & then forget to act. It’s 2016 & high time we take things in our hand.¬†We adults have the responsibility to set good example for coming generations.

Indian flag
We Power
Commit to follow rules

Let’s begin with baby steps. Driving a two-wheeler, then wear a helmet. In a car, put on seat belt. Red light means to stop, so stop & don’t rush through it.Don’t drink & drive. And, if ¬†at all you are caught breaking a rule don’t negotiate with authority – accept the legal course of action !

Promote Equality

Do we even need any explanations about it ? Stop differentiating between people on every small things you can find about. Religion, color ,gender – was this not enough ¬†already that we now make religion based discriminations. There is enough destruction is the world, for a better future we need to ACT NOW !I know I am walking on thin lines here & should stop writing anymore. ¬†ūüôĀ

Let me be clear – I am not talking only about getting an education. With education we learn facts, whereas applying those facts for betterment is being knowledgeable.Knowledge has no limits or age bar or a defined syllabus.Ofcourse, basic schooling should be given to all & government is doing it’s part by various schemes like – school chale, midday meals, etc. We do see examples in daily life where educated people are the monsters. Highly educated but demand dowry, educated but believe in female¬†foeticide & honor killings, educated but employ small children as workers. On the other hand are the parents not formally schooled but work hard to get their children educated. This act makes them knowledgeable.

Respect those who defend us – our Soldiers

How can countrymen be safe without their sacrifices ? They leave their families to defend ours. Rail, hail or sunshine a soldier is always on duty. Respect them, what they do, how they live. Soldiers do not only constitute of those manning our borders. There are so many roles involved Рinfrastructure, operations, logistics, etc. All of these come together to keep make our country a safe place. Have faith in them & lets not question what or how they do what they do.

Random writers !

Randomness of events¬†lead me to write this very random blog post. And the random question for the today is – “When & why did I start blogging ?”

The ideal category of people aim for something & start working towards it. But, the abnormal souls like me juggle through too many things & then stick to one of the many choices.

Year 2010, just graduated & was awaiting my job joining. Addicted to reading over internet brought me to the world of blogging. The decision to start writing blog myself was a random choice. I was habitual of filling pages with anecdotes, poems, feelings & what not. So, why not start writing online ? You can read my first post here.

¬†First few thoughts were – it looks easy, so many people write, even I can do it. And, I could not have been more wrong. It’s not that simple a job. It’s your brainchild & you need time to nurture it. Thus came a long break, even before I had taken proper steps in blogging world.

What did I do in all these dormant years ?

Job & Travel. Read loads of traveler blogs & obvious realization hit me that I too wanted to share my travel stories with the world. So here I am, looking forward to connecting with others & making¬†amateur efforts to inject bug of travelling in people. ūüôā

This was my story & would love to hear your reasons for blogging.

Books & more books !

I am a self-proclaimed book addict & I have no shame in shouting it at top of my voice. Nothing better than reading & getting lost in a different world.I remember watching my dad reading novels till late night & falling asleep. I guess I had caught on this habit very early in life. Now, I have stumbled across this crucial question – Which fiction author’s book/novel you like most? Why ?

Let’s turn back the time wheel & start from the beginning ūüôā

As a kid I used to read Twinkle comics, Champak & Nandan. We used to eagerly wait for the new editions & weekends were reserved for reading them. I gradually grew out of them.

One fine summer evening, I was introduced to the world of ‘Malory Towers’ by Enid Blyton. Next few months were spent searching for all the six books of the series. ¬†I used to dream about going to such school. The elaborate description of the towers & the school campus. They are still alive in memories. It was followed by the craze for ‘Famous Five’ & ‘Secret Seven’ by the same author.

I moved on and entered the magical world of Hogwarts. Which kid did not love the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling. To top that I was reading the HP series even during my board exams. We all kind of grew up with the 11-year-old Harry Potter to the one taking his OWLs. The trio – Harry, Hermione & Ron were the epitome of friendship goals. HP series taught me how to stick around even in harsher conditions.

For romance I walked through the pages of¬† Mills & Boon. Next in line was ‘Shopaholic series’ by¬†Sophie Kinsella. That series mentions shopping in the name itself. I was bound to like them.¬†The ¬†thrill I felt while reading ‘Tell me your Dreams’ ¬†made me fall in love with Sidney Sheldon.Off late, I have developed interest in reading fictional¬†mythologies by Amish Tripathi. The thrillers by¬†Ashwin Sanghi & Jeffrey Archer also keep me hooked on.

As you can tell this list is endless. I cannot point my finger to one author & call him/her my favorite.¬†There is wide ocean of authors to choose from & I for sure do not want to make the tough decision of favoring one. ¬†I know there are loads of people who feel the same. Do comment & let me know what authors you like the most…
