X days to go! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

Natasha had planned to work till the last day and often joked that she might need to go to the hospital from office itself. They would laugh it off. She was tired of answering questions from all the people in office about when is her D-day. She was 36 weeks pregnant and still attending office by taking regular rest and diet.

14 September,2015

Natasha had just had her lunch in cafeteria when she felt a sudden abdominal pain. She drank water and practiced her meditation exercises.

The pain came and went at regular intervals through the next 20 minutes, by then she could no longer tolerate it. Natasha informed her friends to take to her to the hospital and feared for the worst.

Thankfully, her doctor was consultant at the hospital near the office. She was taken to the hospital in the stand-by office ambulance. The blaring siren was causing her dizziness and she was feeling short of breath. She could also feel irregular contractions. The baby’s movement also seemed irregular.

By every passing second the contractions felt stronger and painful. She was wheeled into the emergency and taken straight to the labor room. The doctor examined her and Cardiotocography(CTG) was started to monitor baby’s heartbeat and her contractions.

Her ambulance was followed by a trail of cars with her friends in them. They were excited and were sure of baby’s arrival on the same day. By this time, Ananth had also arrived at the hospital and was greeted by super active friends. He was worried and looking for answers.

‘Doc, the term is not complete. Baby is not supposed to come today. Are they fine?’, asked perplexed Ananth.

‘We are monitoring Natasha and will let you know when we have an update. You can visit her in the room. But, ask your friends to stay quiet. ‘, said the doctor.

The minutes turned into an hour and Ananth was getting impatient. Meanwhile, in the labor room Natasha was equally worried.

‘I can’t feel the baby kicks.’, Natasha told her attendant.

‘The CTG shows regular movements and heartbeat. Relax and take a deep breath. Do not stress so much.’, advised the attendant.

After an hour, Ananth met Natasha and by then she was feeling better. The contractions had subsided and she could feel the baby kicks again. Her health was monitored for four hours and then declared fit to go home.

‘But why did it happen?’, asked Natasha.

‘It was a case of Braxton Hicks contraction. You were in false labor, pretty common so far in pregnancy. You were stressed and thus unable to feel the baby’s kicks. You and baby both are fine.’, explained the doctor.

Natasha had read about it but had not expected to experience it herself. She chuckled as she looked back at the day. Ananth and Natasha were tired by the time they reached home and slept early.

Natasha took the next few days off from work because she could no longer answer people’s question about how many ‘X’ days left to go!

Wishful thinking! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

Natasha has never been a day dreamer, but now all she could do was dream about her life after the kid arrives. It seemed like her life had always revolved around the kid, life before pregnancy had seized to exist. She could only think about a happy future.

Will she have a boy or girl? Will the baby look like her or Ananth? What color eyes would the child have? Curly hair or straight? Dimples or not? What will the baby’s laugh sound like? And another zillion questions like these raced through her mind everyday.

She wanted everything to be perfect for her child from the clothes to the crib. Her sister called it nesting.

‘Natasha, you are nesting. You are filling up your house with things that you don’t even need. Why do you need to have same dress in two different colors for the child?’, asked her sister.

‘What if one color doesn’t look good. My child should have another option. Two colors are my backup plan’, replied Natasha innocently.

‘I give up!’ yelled her sister as she gave up.

Natasha wanted to knit sweaters and crochet hats for her child but her stitching skills were unaccounted for. She wanted to give her child one special gift where she had put in efforts. After days of contemplating she finally found a gift.

Ananth called her crazy when she told him that she wanted to build a crib. Design and build a crib, paint it and decorate it. And after many high-pitched exchanges it was settled that they would get the crib made and Natasha could paint it and decorate it.

Before that she had to take permission from her doctor to touch the paints and they had to search for paints which wont be harmful for her & the child. The next two weeks were the happy times where Natasha would plugin her headphones and keep painting her child’s crib.

It might have been her wishful thinking but that’s what a mother does cause, they want the best for their kids.

Vows to my child! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

Dear Child,

You are the gift of our love and we cannot wait to see you, hold you & cuddle you. We have been sharing this bond for last 8 months and by each passing day the bond is growing stronger. There is still time to meet you in person, but today I make my vows to you. The vows I intend to keep forever.

I promise to love you unconditionally, to nurture you and protect you. I promise to hold you when you are scared and make you laugh when you are sad. I promise to support you in all that you do, even when the world stands against you.

I promise to celebrate your victories and stay with you when you lose. I will be there to encourage you when you try new things. I will be your courage when you are scared. And, together we will beat the odds and win.

I will teach you all that I know and help you expand your horizons beyond mine. You will be educated but I will make sure that you learn wisdom too. I will teach you compassion and kindness, love and care. For without it our lives don’t matter.

I made you from scratch and I promise to tell you everyday that I love you and cherish you. For infinity and beyond I will fulfill my vows to you, my child.

Love you,

Maa

Natasha planned to get this letter printed and post in on her child’s wall and to read them to her child every night. Such is a mother’s love.

08 August,2015

Natasha was planning to spend the Saturday lazing around at home. As she had put on weight, her feet hurt even with an inch of movement. That’s when she heard the continuous knock on the door accompanying the persistent door bell.

‘Whenever I plan to sleep, someone comes knocking. Ah!’,mumbled Natasha.

‘Ananth open the door please’.

‘Nats, I am working, you go ahead please!’,replied Ananth with an uninterested tone.

Natasha walked towards the door with her graceful penguin waddle as the thudding on door continued.

‘SURPRISE!’, shouted the people on the door in unison. Natasha realized that her whole bunch of family and friends were present at the door.

‘Surprise Natasha! Let us in and stop gasping’, said her best friend Amy. As the people started gathering inside the home, it dawned on her that everyone had come for her baby shower. Ananth knew about it and he was one of the people involved in all the planning along with Amy.

Her cousins, friends and colleagues had come together to throw her a baby shower. There was food and drinks and lots of gifts. Amy had brought her special pasta and her mother had made Biryani. And, to top it all they also had bought a dress with matching tiara for her. The cute decorations added to the charm.

During the day, they had an auspicious ceremony where elders blessed her and her child. They whispered sweet nothings into her ears. Afterwards, they had dance party in the living room.

Natasha was elated at all the love that was showered on us. And, she knew that she was lucky to have people around who care and her child would be equally loved. The day was spent well with all the unexpected surprises she got.

Soon after the ultrasound, Ananth & Natasha had informed their parents about the pregnancy. Natasha was provided a list of do’s & don’ts by her mother. What to eat, what to avoid, and another million things.

Natasha was happy that she could finally discuss her pregnancy with her mother.

‘Maa, why is it called morning sickness when I feel sick throughout the day?’, asked a tired Natasha during their daily telephone conversation.

‘And mom when will my head stop hurting. During meetings my head is constantly buzzing as if it would explode!’

‘Silly girl, it happens with everyone’, replied her mother.

‘Maa, I can’t even have my coffee. My breakfast is incomplete without it. And, I guess soon I will have to go shopping for clothes. My jeans don’t fit me any more.’, spoke Natasha in a sad tone.

‘My darling daughter, it’s all for your child. Do you want me to come and stay with you for few days’, told her mother.

‘No, I will manage on my own mom. Someone is calling me, I will call you again in sometime, Love you!’ and Natasha ends the call to talk to second caller.

‘Hello, Is this Natasha? I am Nikhil, Ananth’s colleague. You need to come soon to Healthcare hospital.’ spoke the caller on other end.

‘Why? what happened? Is Ananth fine?’

‘Please come soon’, replied Nikhil and disconnected the call before Natasha could ask any more questions.
