To Love Thyself Uncondontinally!

“Know Thyself, Accept Thyself, Love Thyself”

Natasha had a troubled childhood whose memories haunt her even till now. More than the physical wounds, it’s the scars on her heart that refuse to go away. Living with her aunt and uncle for completing studies had left behind a long tale of sorrows, which she could never talk about.

She was the eldest of two daughters and her parents had sent her to live with her relatives for education. She was a bubbly child whose giggles resonated across the home. But, just in one summer she changed to a timid girl, who spoke only when spoken to. The sparkle of her eyes was lost!

Her aunt had burdened her with all the household chores. The time to be spent studying was lost in cleaning after everyone. She did not mind the work as she wanted to contribute to the household. What followed the chores were the harsh words of her relatives. Not washing clothes properly or leaving dust in the corner, she was reprimanded for it all.

As if the verbal abuse was not enough, her life got a sudden jerk. She was physically abused by the group of boys living in the nearby area. When she complained, no one believed her. Her cousin also refused to help her. Once she raised her voice, she was emotionally abused by her relatives and the neighbours alike.

Was it her fault that she abused by people who were supposed to protect her? Had she provoked her abuser? Was she not a human? Why did not anyone trust her or support her?

Her mind buzzed with such thoughts for days. Days turned to weeks and months. Her friend Ananth came into her life like a blessing. He became her shoulder to cry but even he could fight her battles for her. After many months she saw a ray of hope. Someone who would stand by her to fight against injustice.

She learnt to love herself again, she was no more ashamed of her past. She understood that it is not her fault. Once she realized it, then self-love became a priority. She took baby steps to get back her confidence. She moved out of her relatives house and filed a formal complaint against the torture she had received all this time. Her battle had just begun & she was determined to take it to closure!

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line.”

This story is a piece of fiction, but very much true. We might become victim of unknown circumstances in life and life pulls you down. Once you learn to love yourself, nothing is impossible. Self-love is the best love!

Yes sometimes life puts us in terrible situations, but we must learn to make the most of them. Loving ourselves is the first step to recovery.

Of course, you have to love yourself no matter what. Otherwise people will just take you for granted!
