Working Woman and Proud Mother!

Year 2010:

A usual scene for a fourth year engineering graduate was celebrating after getting campus placement. That’s what I was also doing. I was elated to begin the journey in a corporate world. The excitement of earning salary and ability to spend it all on shopping! The naive me was unaware of all the bills that I would have to pay. ๐Ÿ™‚

Year 2017:

A wait for 40 weeks and I got to hold my son for first time. My prince, the little bundle of joy who made a mother. With the child’s birth a mother is born. And, so I began the journey of motherhood. The girl who ran away at sight of dirt to the mother handling spit, vomit and dirty diapers. Every little milestone by the kiddo was charted and photographed.

Year 2018:

I resumed work after maternity leave and my two worlds combined. Being a working woman and a mother, there was a paradigm shift in my thinking. From a once carefree girl to a dotting mother, I had crossed the seven seas. ๐Ÿ™‚

Few weeks after resuming work were terrible. The guilt pangs of leaving the child with a caretaker were humongous. All the late evenings, I spent working in office away from my child used to pinch my heart. Each day was a new challenge and I learnt the tricks of balancing both the world.

As a working woman, I am proud of the fact that I am independent. I am thankful of the fact that I can fulfill all my child’s need and save a bit for his future. I might not be around all the time for my child, but know that my child would appreciate the small sacrifices his mother made for the greater good.

He would see me as fierce woman who stood by all that’s right. My son will learn to prioritize and multitask multiple roles. He will learn to get a grip on things when life gets tough. For tough times never last,ย  but tough people do!

As a working mother, I seek out the best of both worlds. When the office deadlines stress me out, my child’s laughter rejuvenates me. And, when things at work don’t work out, I don’t get disheartened anymore. For my kid has taught me to be persistent. He has taught be the spirit of never to let go. And, to try again until I succeed.

For all the mothers like me, don’t be afraid to choose your career along with the child. Do not dwell over the negative that people talk behind your back. You can be both a working woman and a proud mother!

Going back to work after having a baby is a tough choice, but I feel itโ€™s important for your own self-worth and also to set an example for your child.

A woman can do anything, she can very well manage the 2 worlds. Sometimes, we just need to test our skills and limits to find out our strengths. Great post, Disha!
