Pregnancy brain! #AtoZChallenge

Last Chapter

‘How can I be so forgetful’, muttered Natasha to no one in particular.

Thrice in this week she had forgotten her lunch at home and had to make do from the cafeteria sandwiches. Hungry and cranky is not a good combination!

By now even her team members were teasing her about the ‘Pregnancy Brain’. Last week they had shifted their office to a different floor & on Monday Natasha was waiting for everyone at the old location. Drafting the email and forgetting to send it has become a frequent occurrence now.

‘Ah, how long will I suffer like this. I should lock myself at home and never come out’, thought Natasha.

One good thing that she can count from her Pregnancy Brain experience is brushing her teeth after every meal. Last weekend, after every meal, she involuntarily went and brushed her teeth. And, this happened four times in two days. Either she is too stressed or she is going crazy.

Even Ananth laughs at her silly mistakes now. She is tired of her carelessness but would not trade it for anything in the world. Pregnancy Brain may be a myth for many people, but for her it was a funny reminder of a new life growing.

What next after Maternity Leave? #Superbloggerchallenge2018

Once you experience childbirth, the next few months spent in trying to adjust and adapt. By the time the feeling of motherhood sinks in, a working woman faces the dilemma of whether to resume work or not.

If you are working in India, then you are eligible for six months of paid maternity leave. For a mother even the six months time period seems less. The child is solely dependent on mother for first six months of life and suddenly overnight the mother leaves the kid to go work. Thankfully, there are few organizations who are understanding and help a returning mother.

If you are sailing through the same boat, I would advice not to stress too much. Give yourself a break, this is a new phase of your life and you will do alright. Get a makeover and be confident! Learn to prioritize your time while at work. The coffee breaks during the day might decrease but its all for greater good.

If you are one of the ambitious ones, you might secretly be waiting to join work. Don’t feel guilty about it, there is no reason not to focus on your career after having a child. You will be able to maintain a work-life balance. First few months might be difficult. But, every dark cloud has a silver lining!

Be ready to accept help and trust others. It’s perfectly fine if you let a close family member or trusted friend take care of your child during the day. It might sound harsh, but if need be, then do not hesitate to keep your child in a day care.

At every step there will be people judging you for how you raise your child. Be assured that a mother’s instinct is best for her child. If you feel something is right, then do it. Do not fret over it. And, go get it girl!
