‘Hello!’
‘…Yes, I am hospital’
‘Okay, I will ask directions and be there’, and Natasha disconnected the call.
Natasha frantically moved towards the emergency room, with many horrid thoughts racing through her mind. That’s when she heard someone call her name. She turned around and found Nikhil standing with the doctor.
‘Are you his wife? We need to talk and get your signatures on these admission forms here. Without this we cannot go ahead with the surgery’, spoke the attendant to Natasha.
‘What happened to him? Is he alright?’, Natasha asked while her eyes kept wandering around looking for Ananth.
‘Ananth has had an accident with his motorbike. He was hit by an incoming vehicle. He is conscious.’, doctor replied to Natasha’s query.
‘Okay, what is the need of surgery then? I need to speak to him’, asked Natasha as she was taken to the room where Ananth was put up.
‘He has fractured his femur on the right leg and it needs to be operated soon. We will be performing a procedure called ORIF-Open Reduction Internal Fixation. The procedure involves cutting open the fracture and then use special metal devices to hold your bones in place while they heal.’, explained the doctor.
After completing all formalities Ananth was wheeled into the operation theater.
Same day, post operative Care
Ananth’s surgery was successful and he was moved into post operative care room. He was under anesthesia’s influence and should wake up in few hours. He would be staying in the hospital for about five days.
The surgeon had explained the precautions to be taken in coming weeks. Ananth would need 3 months of physiotherapy to help build strength and flexibility as he recovers.
The next five days were spent in a jiffy as Ananth recovered from his surgery. Both their parents had arrived the next day. Natasha had spent all the nights in hospital staying besides Ananth. Her parents had insisted that she should go home to rest but still she was adamant. Ananth would not have left her side if something happened to her, so she stayed. It was difficult to see him in pain, but this was the harsh reality!
