This lane, that year! #WriteBravely

It was the summer of ’81, when I had last visited this lane as a child. We were enjoying our last few days of school break. The school had given us the list of things required for new session. The best part of it was the new school uniform.

The earlier plain shirts were to be replaced with the colored striped shirts. The students in our school were divided into four groups or ‘houses’ as we called them then. Each house had its own color specific shirt. A little color in our dull school uniform was all we wished for. πŸ™‚

The uniform was costing our family with three kids a fortune. So, mother took us the old lanes of the city, where she knew someone from someone’s reference. And, he was going to make us new shirts at lesser price. It did not matter where the clothes came from. We were content with new uniforms.

Such, was the innocence of childhood where small things gave immense joy. And, now even the riches cannot fulfill the heart’s desire to find happiness.

I’m participating in theΒ Write Tribe Festival of Words – June 2018. Today’s prompt was a picture prompt.

How I remember those days of drab uniforms jazzed up by the coloured sports Tees that we wore for sports ……. There is something comforting about school uniforms and I prefer it to the wear what you want dress code that some schools adopt these days.

Glad that you could connect with the post. School kids now have too much liberty which was absent even in late 90s. Our school had strict dress code, which was better in a way.
