Things all pregnant women hear! #SUPERBLOGGERCHALLENGE2018

You should add butter to your food. You should gain more weight. Aren’t you too fat already?  – Do these questions remind you something or someone? Well, these are just some of the questions that either you or other pregnant women around you are asked everyday.

Pregnancy is a beautiful phase & everyone around you has some piece of advice for you.  And, the wisdom of others is no doubt helpful. It’s always good to follow simple steps like avoiding processed food, prenatal yoga to make journey of pregnancy stress free. But, where should you draw the line? Some people have no idea of when to stop. It can be your nosy next door neighbor or a random stranger in market. Nothing stops them for giving unsolicited advice!

There were many genuine suggestions that I got during my pregnancy and  I am thankful for it. But, today I am going to list the questions/suggestions that irked me a lot!

  • Do not eat that!

According to my next-door-aunty, all my favorite food are harmful for my baby.  Want Chinese food, you cannot have it. Crave for some Pasta, that’s no good either. Only home-made food with dripping butter is good to have. It’s time to eat more sweets, else you might not have a healthy child. To that Aunty ji, thanks but no thanks!

  • Are you sure you are ready to take care of a child? You would lose all your sleep.

A pregnant women has too much to think of,  please do not add more to her worries. Planned or unplanned, she is giving birth to a child, so obviously she has thought about it and is ready.  Give her some love and support, encourage her!

  • You are the mother, don’t depend too much on husband

I have lost count of how many people had told me this. I understand that in earlier times the roles of men & women in a household had rigid boundaries. Now, as we move towards nuclear family why am I the only one responsible for our child? My husband is equally responsible and he understands his duties towards our baby.

  • You have become fat.

Thanks for the reminder, I was unaware of it. A new life is taking form inside me, so yes I know I have gained weight.  If someone is too thin or too fat, let them be. Stop body shaming pregnant women!

  • Any day now?

Once you are in your last trimester, random people will come up to you with this question. You can be in office or out shopping. By the time my child was born, I was fed up people repeating the same question every time they met me. If only I could wash those smirked looks on their faces!

It might seem like I have a grudge against people giving me suggestions. But that’s not true! I had support of wonderful family & friends who were there for me. Ready to hear out my random blabber & calm me down. Still, dealing with the bunch of nosy aunties is a momentous task. Don’t be that nosy aunty. If someone around you is pregnant then help them, encourage them, keep them happy! Share with them the list of pregnancy myths to avoid that will make this journey easy for them.
