If you are a parent, you would agree with me that meal times can be hard on some days. We need to think of quick healthy food recipes, that can keep the little explorers going on their next adventure. How I wish for my kids to be like Goldilocks who found the little bear’s porridge just right and finished the complete bowl.

Today, let’s embark on a culinary adventure to discover three kid-approved healthy food recipes. These are scrumptious recipes and are protein-rich to support your little one’s growth and development. Protein is like the building blocks of life, especially for growing children. It plays a crucial role in muscle development, bone strength, and overall growth.

Mixed Dal Chilla Recipe –

One of my favorites from childhood is the Dal Chilla, made from lentils and rich in protein. And today, it is one of our go-to healthy food recipes for kids.

Steps for cooking:

  • Soak one cup each of yellow moong dal, green moong dal, urad dal, arhar dal and chana dal overnight.
  • Blend them to make a Dosa batter-like consistency.
  • Add the ½ teaspoon Ajwain, Heeng and Salt (as per taste) to the mixture.
  • Also, add finely chopped onions, tomato, and garlic cloves (5-6) to the mix.
  • Preheat the frying pan brush it with oil, and pour some batter on it.
  • Cook on both sides till it’s golden brown. And voila, your mixed dal Chilla is ready to serve.

Image of ChillaAnd, my kids like a wrap and so I also add stuffing like chopped onions, grated cottage cheese (paneer), lettuce and serve it to them.

Egg Bhurji –

Every time I cook eggs, I hum the lyrics to the song – “आओ सिखाऊँ तुम्हें अंडे का फंडा
ये नहीं प्यारे कोई मामूली बंदा”.

An easy-to-use protein-rich ingredient is Eggs. You can make any variations of this healthy food recipe and it can never go wrong.

Steps for cooking –

  1. Heat the oil in a pan, add the jeera, heeng & spices to the oil.
  2. Add chopped vegetables like onion, tomato & bell pepper and sauté for 3 mins.
  3. Crack the eggs directly in the pan and mix them with the vegetables.

Serve it hot as a breakfast option or a side dish! 

Glassful of Milk with a secret ingredient

 A glassful of milk can be a great accompaniment to your kid’s meal. Warm or cold milk is a personal choice. We were recently on a vacation and I made sure to carry my secret ingredient. One glass of milk with scoops of Complan is a constant even on holidays.

    Finding new protein-rich recipes for kids is a task but a glass of milk is a good companion for kids to keep them full for some time.
